MUSIC & AUDIOSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Spotify subscription.

Ready to cancel Spotify? Subex helps you find the right cancellation steps, keep your subscriptions in one place, and stay ahead of renewals with reminders.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Start here.

Sign in at spotify.com/account, open Manage your plan and select Cancel subscription. Premium stays active until your next billing date, then the account switches to the free ad-supported tier. If there is no cancel option, a partner such as a mobile or internet provider bills you; their contact link is under Payment settings inside Manage your plan.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Spotify, step by step.

Billed directly by Spotify

This is the normal route for a plan bought on spotify.com. Cancelling does not delete your account, playlists or saved music.

  1. Sign in to your Spotify account page in a browser (the mobile app does not always expose plan settings).
  2. Open Manage your plan.
  3. Select Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.
  4. Check the date Spotify shows for when Premium ends and keep the confirmation email.

If you cancel during a zero-priced free trial, Spotify switches the account to the free service immediately rather than at the end of the period. Spotify says these trials cannot be reactivated.

Bundled with a mobile or internet provider

Spotify is frequently sold inside a phone or broadband plan. When a partner bills you, the cancel option does not appear on the Spotify account page.

  1. Open Manage your plan and look at Payment settings.
  2. If a partner company is named, use the contact link shown there.
  3. Cancel the Spotify element with that provider, and check whether your bundle price changes.

Bought inside an app store

Use this route only if your receipt comes from Apple or Google, not from Spotify.

  1. For an Apple-billed plan, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions and cancel Spotify there.
  2. For a Google Play-billed plan, open Subscriptions in Google Play and cancel it there.
  3. Keep the store’s confirmation; deleting the Spotify app cancels nothing.

Before you cancel.

  • Work out whether you manage the plan or are a member of someone else’s Premium Family or Duo. A member who cancels only leaves the group; the plan keeps running and only the plan manager can end it.
  • Decide whether you want downloads. Offline downloads stop working once Premium ends, although the tracks stay in your playlists.
  • Check the payment method on your account page. A partner name there means you cannot cancel on Spotify.

What happens next?

  • Premium normally runs until the next billing date, then the account becomes the free ad-supported tier rather than closing.
  • Playlists, followed artists and saved music remain on the account. Cancelling is not account deletion.
  • Spotify does not promise refunds for a period already paid for; check your confirmation and Spotify’s terms for your country.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

Do I lose my playlists when I cancel Spotify Premium?

No. Your account stays open on the free tier and your playlists, library and followed artists remain. What you lose are Premium features such as offline downloads and ad-free listening.

Why is there no Cancel subscription option in my Spotify account?

Two common reasons: a partner such as a mobile or internet provider bills the plan, or the account has no active Premium plan. Check Payment settings under Manage your plan for the partner’s contact link.

I am on a Premium Family plan — can I cancel it?

Only the plan manager can cancel the plan. If you are a member, cancelling removes you from the group but the family plan keeps billing the manager.

What happens if I cancel during a free trial?

Spotify says that if you cancel during a zero-priced free trial, the account switches to the free service immediately rather than keeping Premium to the end of the trial, and that zero-priced trials cannot be reactivated.

Does cancelling Premium delete my Spotify account?

No. Cancelling ends the paid plan; the account remains on the free tier. Account deletion is a separate request through Spotify support.
